I have a 20'x40' inground pool that was built in the 70's. Between the coping and the concrete patio is an 18" space that was filled with dirt and covered with pavers to allow access in the event there was ever a need to access the lines without breaking up the concrete. As an aside, this came in very handy last year when I was able to relatively easily dig down to my skimmer line to locate and fix a leak, as well as run brand new lines to my returns (there was another huge leak...
